The Cloud reached The Economist

Filed under: Models — multicoreblog @ 12:04 am

The Economist, a publication which is always looking at technology from the market perspective, published a special report on corporate IT and Cloud Computing on October 25, 2008. I bought the printed edition and it’s available online (to subscribers). However, a brief has free access here and it includes an audio interview with the author

It is interesting their approach: I have been following the topic along 2008 through technology magazines/websites/blogs/conferences; but the view is slightly different from here. Basically it points out the issues that end users are pushing (availability, volume of usage, etc) and the ones that providers are facing (security of data, how to deal without boundaries, changing business models, etc). What is worth to read deeper is the list of sources that the author employed to do the report. Between them, I strongly recommend The Only Sustainable Edge: Why Business Strategy Depends on Productive Friction and Dynamic Specialization which has a website that details its topics. One of the authors is John Seely Brown, former Chief Scientist of Xerox Palo Alto Research Centre (PARC).
